USDT network fees: TRC-20 vs BEP-20 vs ERC-20

The same USDT exists on several blockchains, and each has its own fees and address format. Picking the right network saves money; picking the wrong one can lose your USDT. Here is how the three most common networks compare.

Comparison

NetworkBlockchainFee paid inAddress starts withTypical cost
TRC-20TRONTRX (or TRON "energy")TLow
BEP-20BNB Smart ChainBNB0xLow
ERC-20EthereumETH0xUsually the highest

Exact fees change with network demand and with each exchange's withdrawal policy, so always read the fee shown on the withdrawal screen before you confirm.

The mistake that loses funds

BEP-20 and ERC-20 addresses look identical: both start with 0x. A wallet address can be valid on both networks, so a transfer sent on the wrong one may go through without an error and then not appear where you expected. Some exchanges can recover such deposits for a fee; many cannot. Before every transfer:

  1. Ask the receiver which network they accept, by name.
  2. Select that same network on the withdrawal screen.
  3. Send a small test amount first to a new address.

Exchange withdrawal fee vs network fee

When you withdraw from an exchange, you pay the exchange's withdrawal fee, which is set by the exchange to cover the network cost. When you send from your own wallet, you pay the network fee directly in that chain's coin, so you need a little TRX, BNB or ETH in the wallet. A wallet holding only USDT on Ethereum cannot move it until you add some ETH.

What fees mean in rupees

A fee quoted in USDT is easy to convert: 1 USDT is Rs 278.08 or ₹95.87. A fee of 1 USDT on a 100 USDT transfer is 1% of the amount; on 1,000 USDT it is only 0.1%. That is why small transfers on expensive networks feel costly. For fees quoted in ETH, use our gas fee guide.

Which one should you use?

  • Use whichever network your receiver or P2P platform accepts. Compatibility comes first.
  • If both sides support several, TRC-20 and BEP-20 are usually cheaper than ERC-20.
  • For large amounts, some people accept a higher fee in return for a network they trust more. That is a personal choice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest network for USDT?

TRC-20 and BEP-20 are usually much cheaper than ERC-20. Check the current fee on your exchange's withdrawal screen.

Can I send ERC-20 USDT to a BEP-20 address?

The addresses look the same, but the networks are different. Funds sent on the wrong network may not arrive where expected and can be hard or impossible to recover.

Why do I need TRX or ETH to send USDT?

Network fees are paid in the blockchain's own coin. Exchanges handle this for you when you withdraw; your own wallet needs a small balance of it.
