Data sources and methodology

CoinRate shows indicative mid-market rates. This page explains where the numbers come from and what they do and do not include.

Where the prices come from

  • Live prices: when you open a page, your browser requests current prices directly from the CoinGecko public API. CoinGecko aggregates prices from many exchanges and publishes the price of each coin in each supported currency.
  • Pegged currencies without a direct feed: CoinGecko does not publish prices in Qatari riyal (QAR) or Omani rial (OMR). For these, CoinRate multiplies the live US dollar price by the currency's fixed peg (3.64 and 0.3845).
  • Refresh: the page asks for new prices every 60 seconds while it is open. The status label shows "Live rates" when this works.
  • Saved rates: the numbers written into each page, and shown if live prices cannot load, are a snapshot from 27 Sep 2026. Crypto prices in that snapshot come from Blockchain.com; currency rates come from the US Federal Reserve H.10 release, the Pakistani open-market mid rate for PKR, Wise mid-market rates for KWD and BDT, and the official dollar pegs for AED (3.6725), SAR (3.75), QAR (3.64), OMR (0.3845) and BHD (0.376). The status label says "Saved rates" when these are shown.

How conversions are calculated

Value = amount × price of 1 coin in the chosen currency Coins bought = currency amount ÷ price of 1 coin

Satoshi values use 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats. Lakh and crore readings use 1 lakh = 100,000 and 1 crore = 10,000,000. Results are rounded for display; the calculation uses full precision.

What the rates do not include

  • Exchange trading fees and the spread between buy and sell prices.
  • Network (blockchain) fees.
  • Local premiums, such as the USDT P2P premium in Pakistan, or price differences on Indian exchanges.
  • Taxes such as India's 1% TDS.

The price you are offered will usually differ from ours. Use CoinRate as a reference to check whether an offer is reasonable.
