Why the USDT price on Indian exchanges often runs higher
On Indian exchanges USDT is bought with rupees, and the price reflects local demand for a dollar-linked asset. It has often traded above the official dollar rate. Three things feed that gap: demand from people who want dollar exposure, the cost for exchanges of moving money through banks, and the effect of TDS and tax on traders' pricing.
The converter shows the global reference, so you can see how big the premium on your app is. For example, if an app quotes USDT at 3% above ₹95.87, you are paying 3% for the convenience.
Tax on USDT in India
USDT counts as a virtual digital asset. Selling it for rupees can trigger the 1% TDS, and any gain is taxed at 30%, even though USDT is designed to stay at one dollar. A small gain can arise when the rupee weakens against the dollar between your purchase and sale. See the India crypto tax guide.
USDT, USDC and the dollar
