India crypto tax calculator
Enter what you paid for a crypto asset and what you sold it for. The calculator applies India's flat 30% tax, 4% cess and the 1% TDS credit.
What the calculator applies
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Tax rate | 30% of the gain (Section 115BBH), whatever the holding period |
| Cess | 4% health and education cess on the tax |
| Deductions | Only the cost of acquisition. Fees and other expenses are not deducted |
| Losses | No set-off against other gains or income, and no carry-forward |
| TDS | 1% of the sale value (Section 194S) above yearly thresholds; claimed as a credit |
Worked example
You bought crypto for ₹70,000 and sold it for ₹90,000. The gain is ₹20,000. Tax at 30% is ₹6,000, plus 4% cess of ₹240, for ₹6,240. If ₹900 TDS (1% of ₹90,000) was deducted, about ₹5,340 is left to pay. These are the numbers pre-filled in the calculator above.
What it does not cover
- Surcharge for high incomes.
- Gifts of crypto, mining or staking income, or business income from trading. These can be taxed differently.
- Several trades at once. Work out each asset separately, because losses on one cannot reduce gains on another.

What if TDS is more than my tax?
You can claim the excess TDS as a credit or refund when you file your return.
