How to calculate the value of any crypto in rupees
Multiply the number of coins by the coin's price in rupees. If you only know the dollar price, multiply by the dollar rate as well. Here is the method with worked examples.
The basic formula
Value in rupees = number of coins × price of 1 coin in rupees
Example: 0.5 ETH at Rs 754,881.53 per ETH is worth Rs 377,440.76.
When you only have the dollar price
Most apps and news sites quote crypto in US dollars. Convert in two steps:
Value in rupees = coins × price in USD × USD/rupee rate
Example: 2 SOL at $124.30 each is $248.60. Multiplied by the dollar rate, that is Rs 69,130.69 or ₹23,833.28.
Which dollar rate you use matters. In Pakistan, the interbank and open-market rates differ, and P2P sellers price USDT at their own rate. Use the rate at which you would actually exchange.
How much crypto a rupee amount buys
Coins = rupee amount ÷ price of 1 coin in rupees
Example: Rs 50,000 ÷ Rs 23,599,537.28 = 0.00211869 BTC.
Include the fees
The formula gives the market value. What you actually receive is lower. Subtract:
- the exchange trading fee (a percentage of the trade),
- the spread between buy and sell prices,
- network fees if you move coins between wallets,
- bank or wallet charges for moving rupees.
A rough check: if you sell coins worth Rs 100,000 and the fees and spread together come to 1.5%, expect about Rs 98,500.
Profit or loss in rupees
Profit = (value when sold − value when bought) − all fees
Percentage change = (new value ÷ old value − 1) × 100
Measure both values in the same currency. Because the rupee also moves against the dollar, a coin can gain in rupees even when its dollar price is flat. For tax in India, profit is worked out in rupees; see the India crypto tax guide.
